Missed Adventures The Wild Atlantic Way and the Antrim Coast

Cancelled until 2022

ireland11Our Ireland Motorcycle Tour will cover the heart of the country from Dublin, heading west towards Galway and then north to Donegal and beyond, along ‘ The Atlantic Coast’.

We have the spectacle of the Wild Atlantic way and also the Causeway and Mourne coasts, lush green countryside, mountain backdrops and spectacular cliff top views as we follow our route around this beautiful island. Lovely scenic roads, beautiful open countryside and a very warm welcome from the locals are a feature of this fabulous tour.

We will stay at wonderful locations in excellent accommodation, with restaurants and bars offering authentic and very tasty local produce.

The Missed Adventures Ireland Motorcycle Tour will allow us to cover many areas of outstanding beauty, across the centre of the country and around the wild and open coastline, before returning to Dublin for our ferry home and you have the chance to experience it with us.

We begin by making our way to Holyhead for the morning sailing 08.55 to Dublin. We head west across country and spend the first night of our tour in the Republic in County Westmeath. We then head for Galway and on to Donegal, following the Atlantic way and spending nights two and three along the coast. Day four is spent circumnavigating the remainder of the coast, which at many times offers us spectacular views out from the cliff tops over the ocean. We cross in to Northern Ireland and head for our hotel, which is located in the centre North of the country.

From here we can make our way around the Northern point of the Causeway coast on day five, allowing time to visit well known tourist attractions in the area and ending the day and our second night in the North at a beautiful hotel giving us views out over the Atlantic. We will arrive at our hotel here by mid afternoon on day five, giving us some free time to explore and perhaps visit local attractions in the area.

Leaving the hotel on day six we ride the Antrim coast South towards Belfast. We stay to the East of the city before making our way back to the coast again for our last night in the North near Carlingford lough. Day seven will see us head South and cross back in to the Republic for our final night of the tour in Dublin. Our ferry return is booked for Saturday morning, 08.10 from Dublin port to Holyhead, where we arrive at lunchtime ready for our onward travel home.

Note: Euro currency will be required on the Ireland Motorcycle Tour for our four nights in the Republic of Ireland. Whilst we advise carrying your passport for this tour, as a UK citizen you can also use other official photo identification such as a “Photo card Driving licence” – and our sea carrier will require photo identification for each person travelling.

Day 1:

Our Ireland Motorcycle Tour begins by taking the morning ferry from Holyhead to Dublin Port and you should make your way to Holyhead for the 08.55 sailing. We arrive in Dublin at 12.10 and journey from the port to our first overnight hotel in County Westmeath. Our accommodation is 4* and we have an evening meal booked in the wonderful restaurant here.

Day 2:

Today will see us head West to Galway and beyond, following the stunning Atlantic Way in to County Mayo. We will visit the famine memorial (Ghost ship) sculpture, close to Croagh Patrick. Hugging the coast from here, we run through beautiful scenery arriving at our hotel for the evening. There are many bars and restaurants in the town leaving people free to make their own choice of dining arrangements.

Day 3:

Starting in County Mayo, we continue along the wild and open Atlantic Way, following it in to County Sligo, County Leitrim and then County Donegal. We visit Downpatrick Head and Mullaghmore along our route and a fabulous day on the road is promised with stunning views out over the sea. We end our day at a lovely harbour front hotel overlooking the Atlantic fishing fleet.

Day 4:

Heading out along the coast towards Slieve cliffs, we then turn inland and cross the beautiful and open Glengesh pass before picking up the Atlantic way again North of Ardara. We continue on for Mass and Dunfanaghy, before visiting Fanad Head and heading South past Drongawn Lough. Our route takes us on through Londonderry and we end the day at our 3* Hotel in Northern Ireland.

Day 5:

Leaving the hotel we head towards Ballycastle and the beautiful Causeway coast. Pausing in Ballymoney on route, we will visit the Joey and Robert Dunlop memorial garden. There is also the potential for anyone wanting to visit the Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge and the Giants Causeway today and we can stop at both for those that wish to visit. We finally end the day at our fabulous 4* hotel, which is ideally located close to the Bushmills Distillery. Anyone wanting to make an afternoon visit to the distillery, will have plenty of time to do so before retiring back to the hotel.

Day 6:

Another day around the Causeway coast will see us travel South towards Belfast. We stay to the East side of the city and head back along the coast via Bangor and Donaghadee. There is fantastic scenery and the chance for a lunchtime visit, to the real ‘’oldest pub’’ in Ireland along our route today. Our journey will then take in Downpatrick and the beautiful Down Cathedral, reputed burial site of Saint Patrick, before looping briefly through the Mourne mountains near Newcastle and then heading to our lovely 3* hotel. A two-course evening meal is provided for us at the hotel, on our final night in the north.

Day 7:

Today we move inland from the coast and ride the Northern shore of Carlingford Lough heading for Newry and the border. We cross back in to the Republic near Killeen and continue South past Dundalk and on towards Drogheda. On the outskirts of Dublin we pull over for our final night of the tour. Our hotel gives us an ideal location, leaving only a short 15 – 20 minute journey from our accommodation to Dublin port for the ferry the next morning. There are bars and restaurants in the area for our evening meal or if you prefer just eat at the hotel. It is also only a short taxi or bus ride in to Dublin centre if you wish to sample the nightlife.

Day 8:

We leave the hotel early next and make our way the short distance to Dublin port ready for our 8.10am sailing back to Holyhead. As we leave the hotel before breakfast is served, we can take this on the ferry. Our arrival back in Holyhead is scheduled for 11.50am leaving everyone ample time to make their onward journey home.
