Missed Adventures France & Spain - Andorra & Catalonia

Wednesday 1st September - Saturday 11th September
Cancelled

Catalonia4Our France & Spain Motorcycle Tour begins with an evening departure from Portsmouth and you should make your way there for the sailing to St Malo. We arrive in France and travel via national roads to our hotel in Poitiers. This is a great location for our first overnight stay and it gets the trip off to a great start.

Leaving Poitiers we again travel national routes and visit Oradour Sur Glane, scene of the appaling village masacre in June 1944. On day three we travel to and cross over the famous Millau Viaduct a stunning masterpiece of engineering, before an overnight stay in the beautiful city of Carcassone.

(The intention is for the Millau crossing to be the only motorway section we cover on this tour, instead choosing to use National roads in France and Spain, along with minor roads in Andorra and the Pyrenees – Relaxed scenic motorcycling at its best)

We overnight in some fabulous locations on route, including the beautiful wine region of Rioja, in a wonderful hotel used by Missed Adventures on previous tours. Our final night of the tour is spent in the city of Bilbao and our beautiful 4* hotel here is located close to Casco Viejo the ‘old town’ where we can enjoy the many tapas bars and restaurants. Our tour eventually ends by taking the morning sailing from Bilbao, putting us back in to the Uk the following morning. This is a great tour with fabulous scenery, superb roads and places of interest and Missed Adventures invite you to join it for the experience.

Day 1:

Our France & Spain Motorcycle Tour begins from Portsmouth and you should make your way there for the early evening departure of 20.15 You have the chance to relax in the bar and get to know your fellow travellers before retiring for the evening ready for our arrival in France.

Day 2:

Our ferry arrives in France and we begin to make our way South / South West, avoiding the large cities of Le Mans and Tours. We travel through arable farming country on national roads, giving time for coffee stops as necessary and allowing everyone to enjoy the lovely scenery without having to resort to peage motorways. Our 3 star hotel in Poitiers is located in the heart of the city, close to the pedestrian only zone where there are many bars and restaurants. We have secure parking and all the facilities necessary at a hotel used by Missed Adventures on previous occasions.

Day 3:

Leaving Poitiers we travel across open countryside before turning off to visit the village of Oradour Sur Glane near Limoges. It was here on Saturday 10th June 1944, that a total of 642 men, women and children were massacred by members of the Waffen SS. The village was looted and destroyed and remains in that state today as a reminder to the crime which occurred here. Before entering the village remains, there is a small visitor centre containing detailed information at the site. Moving on from Oradour we head South East in to the Lot region and our hotel for the evening.

Day 4:

Today we head South across the Aveyron region towards Millau and the famous Viaduct. We will turn off at the viewing platform and make our way on foot to this spot, before returning to the motorway and crossing the 2.4 kilometers length of the bridge, which is also one of the worlds tallest. (note: there is a 5 euro toll charge for crossing the bridge) Our hotel for the evening is set in the beautiful city of Carcassone, famous for it’s well preserved walled fortifications and watch-towers. From Millau we will revert back to beautifully scenic national routes for our run in to Carassone.

Day 5:

A superb day on the bike today, riding South from Carcassone via D roads in to the foothills of the Pyrenees. Some of the best biking roads in and around the Pyrenees, Andorra and Nth Eastern Spain are available for us over the next three days and the routes will not disappoint you. Outstanding scenery fills the day as we make our way to Andorra and explore the roads here before making our way to the hotel for an overnight in the heart of the Principality.

Day 6:

Moving on from Andorra we cross in to Catalonia and ride some really fabulous roads here. We use both national and local roads travelling in the Catllaras and the national park of Cadi-Moixero. Another stunning day of scenery and wonderful roads on the bike and we will remain in the North of the Catalonia region for our overnight stay.

Day 7:

Today we enter Aragon, beginning with national routes but quickly changing to local A roads and finishing in the Sierra Canones de Guara. We pass beautiful scenic lakes, have lunch in a cobbled courtyard setting, complete with castle ramparts and the Pyrenees peaks in the background. Our final run is through scenery straight from spaghetti westerns as we make our way in to Jaca and our hotel for the evening.

Day 8:

Our journey today takes us on minor roads in to and through the Navarra region. Crossing miles of open and scenic countryside, we pass by the ruins of castles perched high above the fields of vines and olive trees. Our destination, is the Basque country, close to the famous Rioja wine region. We have a fabulous 4*hotel here, set in and amongst the wonderful panoramic scenery. The old town is close to our hotel and offers us bars and restaurants in a lovely medieval setting.

Day 9:

Today we head North through the beautiful countryside of the Basque country. Our destination for the final night of our tour is Bilbao and we will get there via minor roads, through lovely sweeping mountainous countryside before taking the coast road to the west of San Sebastian and in to Bilbao. Our fabulous 4* hotel here is close to Casco Viejo and has a wealth of amenities, including secure garage parking.

Day 10:

After breakfast we leave the hotel and travel via the motorway network to the port of Bilbao. The morning ferry back to Portsmouth leaves at 10:30 am giving us chance to enjoy breakfast before leaving the hotel. Please note; there is a 1 euro toll on route back to Bilbao port.

Day 11:

Landing back in Portsmouth at 09.00 – 09.15 will leave everyone refreshed for the onward journey home. This tour will provide you with many fantastic memories, from breathtaking scenery, places of interest, wonderful food and wine and the stunning motorcycling roads on which we have travelled, which will be your favourite.
